Child Counselling

Childhood is a time of growth and discovery. Our sessions provide a comfortable space for children to explore their emotional world and better understand their brains and bodies. Although children attend counselling for a variety of reasons, all of our sessions have three underlying goals:

  1. Enhance emotional awareness and understanding of how thoughts, feelings and behaviours are connected.

  2. Increase emotional vocabulary to better process and express thoughts and feelings.

  3. Develop a toolkit of coping strategies to calm the mind and body when experiencing powerful emotions.

Ultimately, we aim to help children better understand their mental health and provide them with coping tools they can use throughout their lifespan.

PARENT Support

Caregivers play a crucial role in fostering and promoting a child's healthy development. Our sessions provide a comfortable space for parents to explore challenges and learn strategies for best supporting the unique needs of each child. Although caregivers seek support for a variety of reasons, all of our sessions have these underlying goals:

  1. Increase knowledge of child mental health and emotional development.

  2. Develop a toolkit of strategies to help support a child with emotion regulation or mental health challenges.

  3. Enhance emotional awareness and coping skills to model healthy strategies for managing powerful emotions.

We love that all families are unique. We aim to help parents support children in a way that enhances connection and aligns with family values.

Our principal therapist, Brittany Jacob, has training in delivering the SPACE Program, which stands for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions. This evidence-based parenting approach helps reduce child and adolescent anxieties and OCD through parenting support. More information about this program can be found here. Skill building Programs

At Paragon, we have developed skill-building programs to help children better understand their mental health and learn tangible coping strategies. The difference between programs and regular counselling sessions is that each program is structured to focus on a specific theme and skill each session. The programs provide individual 1-to-1 support with a counsellor and explore each child’s personal experience. All sessions are delivered virtually over secure video chat, and appointment times are flexible to cater to busy family schedules.
